You might recognize yourself here

  • 01

You keep saying “I’m fine” and hearing how unconvincing it sounds.

  • 02

Your to-do list is under control, yet you wake at 3 a.m. with your heart racing.

  • 03

You’ve moved, graduated, divorced, retired or become a parent, and don’t recognize your life yet.

  • 04

Friends have started to suggest, gently, that maybe you should talk to someone.

  • 05

The same argument, habit or relationship pattern keeps repeating no matter how hard you try.

  • 06

Something happened years ago that you’ve never told anyone.

  • 07

You’ve been searching for a therapist near me and feel overwhelmed by the choices.

Individual therapy at Mind & Body Healing Collective is a dedicated hour that belongs entirely to you, whether you meet us in Lawrence, Overland Park or Topeka or by telehealth. With more than 30 clinicians on our team, we can match you with a therapist whose training, style and lived experience fit what you’re carrying, whether that’s anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, a major life change or a quieter sense that you’ve lost track of yourself somewhere along the way.

Our approach is integrative, trauma-informed and rooted in the connection between mind and body. As our founder puts it, “healing is not only possible but part of our nature to want to thrive, not just exist.” In one-on-one therapy, we meet you where you are, help you understand your patterns with compassion rather than blame, and build the insight and tools that let you come home to yourself.

What Individual Therapy Offers

Individual therapy is the foundation of our work. It’s a confidential, collaborative relationship with a licensed clinician who gets to know your history, your strengths and what you want to change. Unlike advice from friends, therapy offers someone trained to notice patterns, ask the questions you might avoid and stay steady with you through hard feelings, without needing anything from you in return.

Sessions may focus on understanding the past, managing what’s happening now, or both. Some clients want practical strategies for panic or low mood; others want space to process old wounds, explore identity or find meaning. Many discover that a blend works best. You don’t have to know which you want before you start. Figuring that out together is part of the work.

How We Match You Across 30+ Clinicians

The relationship with your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of how helpful therapy will be, so we take matching seriously. Our team includes LSCSWs, LMSWs, LPCs, LCPCs, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed clinical psychotherapist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner. When you reach out, we consider far more than who has the next opening, including:

If the first match doesn’t feel right, tell us. Switching to another clinician within our collective is always okay and never taken personally. Our goal is a fit where you feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to grow, and sometimes that takes a second try. Feel free to share preferences we might not think to ask about, such as a therapist’s gender, pace, sense of humor or comfort with spiritual topics.

  • What you’re seeking help with, and any specialized training it calls for
  • Age and life stage, from young children to adults over 65
  • Approaches you’re curious about, such as EMDR, IFS or somatic work
  • Identity preferences, including LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent-affirming care
  • In-person or telehealth, office location and your schedule
  • Your insurance plan or self-pay needs

Individual Counseling for Every Age and Stage

We work with clients from 4 years old through older adulthood. For young children, therapists use play, art and movement to help them express what they can’t yet put into words. Teens get a space that’s truly their own, with family involvement when it helps. College-age and young adults find support for identity, independence, academic pressure, first relationships and the question of who they want to become.

Adults come to us for anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, parenting stress and relationship patterns. Our team includes clinicians with specialized training in perinatal mental health and chronic illness, and clinicians with a focus on veteran and military mental health. For older adults, we offer compassionate care around aging, grief, health transitions and life reflection, and we accept Medicare and Humana Medicare.

How Do I Know Which Therapist Is Right for Me?

Look for someone who helps you feel both safe and gently challenged. In the first few sessions, notice whether you feel heard, whether your therapist explains their approach in a way that makes sense, and whether you leave with a sense of direction, even when the work feels hard. Credentials and modalities matter, but so does that basic sense of trust in the room.

It’s also fair to ask questions: How do you work with trauma? Have you supported people with experiences like mine? What does progress usually look like? A good therapist welcomes those questions. And if you’re truly unsure where to start, our intake team can make a thoughtful recommendation based on what you share with us.

Therapists Who Know These Communities

Our clinicians in Lawrence, Overland Park and Topeka understand local life, from the KU and Washburn semester rhythms to the busy pace of Johnson County, the pressures of small-town Kansas and the commute across the Kansas City metro. Some have practiced in the area for well over a decade. We also believe in giving back: each quarter, we recognize a local organization, such as our $500 donation to Van Go, a Lawrence nonprofit that employs young people in the arts.

Individual therapy is for ongoing support, not emergencies. If you’re in crisis or having thoughts of suicide, reach out to 988 by call or text right now. When you’re ready to begin steady, one-on-one work, we’re here, and you don’t have to have it all figured out before you reach out.

questions

individual therapy, answered

Still wondering about something? Call (785) 615-1995 or send us a note.

How much does individual therapy cost?

Self-pay rates are $275 for a 60-minute intake, then $250 for 60 minutes, $175 for 45 minutes or $125 for 30 minutes. Same-day payment earns a 40% discount, and some providers can arrange individualized reduced rates. A Good Faith Estimate is available on request, so you’ll know expected costs ahead of time.

Which insurance plans do you accept?

We’re in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas and Kansas City (all BCBS networks), Aetna Commercial and Medicare plans, Ambetter, Cigna, Humana Medicare, Medicare, UMR, United Commercial and Community Plan, Sunflower, Healthy Blue, KanCare, Tricare, VA plans, Centrus, Centivo, Luminare, Meritain and ProviDRS. We file claims for you, and copays or deductibles are due at your visit.

Do you offer therapy for children?

Yes. We see children from age 4 and up, along with teens and their families. Clinicians who work with young kids often use play, art and storytelling to help them express feelings, and they partner with parents to support progress at home. Let us know your child’s age and concerns so we can match them with someone experienced.

How often will I come to therapy?

Most people start with weekly or every-other-week sessions, which helps build momentum and trust. As things improve, many clients shift to less frequent check-ins. Your therapist will talk with you about what makes sense for your goals, schedule and budget, and you can revisit the plan anytime.

Can I get medication and therapy in the same place?

Yes. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner provides psychiatry and medication management in Lawrence, in Overland Park and by telehealth within Kansas, which makes coordinating care much simpler. A psychiatric intake is $330, and self-pay follow-ups are $170 for 15 minutes or $190 for 30 minutes, with insurance accepted for psychiatry as well.

Is in-person therapy better than online therapy?

Both can work well. In-person sessions suit people who want a dedicated space away from home, as well as young children and some trauma work. Telehealth can make consistent therapy easier with a busy schedule or a long drive. Many of our clients use both, and your therapist can help you choose.
