You might recognize yourself here
- 01
You understand exactly why you do something, but insight alone hasn’t changed it.
- 02
A fear or habit feels older than any memory you can reach.
- 03
You want to explore the deeper roots of a pattern, not just manage it.
- 04
Relaxation feels out of reach on your own, no matter how hard you try.
- 05
You’re curious about regression work and want it held within a clinical, ethical frame.
- 06
Big questions about meaning, purpose or spirit keep surfacing in your life.
- 07
You’ve done a lot of therapy and are looking for a different doorway in.
Hypnotherapy at Mind & Body Healing Collective uses the natural state of focused, relaxed attention we call trance to help you reach insight and change that ordinary conversation may not touch. You’ve likely drifted into light trance many times, while driving a familiar road, getting lost in music or daydreaming by a window. In therapy, that same state becomes a tool for healing, guided by a licensed clinician.
Hypnotherapy is a smaller, occasional part of what our collective offers. Our founder, Anissa Pfannenstiel, LSCSW, is a certified hypnotherapist and draws on it at times within a broader integrative approach that also includes EMDR, Brainspotting and somatic healing. Clinical hypnotherapy can support people facing trauma, anxiety and stubborn habits, and, for those who are interested, deeper spiritual exploration. Availability for this work is limited and changes over time, so the best first step is to ask what’s currently offered.
What Hypnotherapy Is, and What It Isn’t
Clinical hypnotherapy is a collaborative process in which your therapist guides you into a relaxed, focused state and then works with the images, feelings and memories that arise. In that state, the critical, analyzing mind tends to quiet down, which can make it easier to access emotion, rehearse new responses or connect with inner resources you didn’t know you had. It isn’t sleep, and it isn’t mind control.
Stage hypnosis has given many people the wrong impression. In therapeutic hypnosis, you remain aware of what’s happening, you can speak and move, and you can come out of trance whenever you choose. Your therapist can’t make you do or say anything that goes against your values. Most people describe the state as deeply restful, a blend of awareness and absorption, a bit like being lost in a good book.
Will I Lose Control Under Hypnosis?
No. It’s the most common worry, and a very reasonable one. In reality, hypnotherapy depends on your consent and participation from start to finish. You set the goals, you can decline any suggestion, and you can open your eyes and stop at any point. Many people are surprised by how much they remember afterward and how ordinary, even gentle, the experience turns out to feel.
Hypnotherapy also isn’t the right fit for everyone. People experiencing psychosis, certain dissociative conditions or an acute crisis are usually better served by other approaches first. Your clinician will talk with you about your history and screen carefully for safety before any trance work begins, and will recommend a different path if hypnosis isn’t appropriate right now.
Regression and Deeper Trance Work
Some hypnotherapy uses deeper trance to explore memories, symbolic imagery and, for those who hold such beliefs, experiences some describe as past lives or contact with a higher self. When it’s available, this kind of work is usually a short series of sessions rather than long-term therapy. These longer, standalone sessions are not billable to insurance and are offered only on a limited basis.
Regression work is treated as meaningful material to explore rather than as a literal record of events. Memories and images that surface in trance can be powerful and healing, but they aren’t used as factual evidence about the past. Spiritual exploration is always optional here, and you’re welcome to approach this work in purely psychological terms.
How Hypnotherapy Fits Into Your Care
At our collective, hypnotherapy is one strand of a broader, trauma-informed plan rather than a standalone fix. It may be used to deepen relaxation and nervous system regulation, work with early experiences behind anxiety or phobias, strengthen new habits or support integration after other therapeutic work. Common focuses include:
Hypnotherapy pairs well with EMDR, somatic work and mindfulness, and some clients explore it alongside or after our SomaVerse ketamine-assisted program as another path into expanded awareness. Whatever the combination, your clinician keeps the work grounded, making sure insights from trance are connected back to relationships, choices and everyday life.
- Anxiety, fears and phobias
- Habits and patterns that resist change
- Access to calm and inner resources
- Unresolved early experiences
- Self-exploration, meaning and spiritual questions
Asking About Hypnotherapy Availability
Because hypnotherapy is specialized and availability shifts over time, we recommend reaching out before booking so our team can explain what’s currently offered, how sessions are structured and what they cost. If hypnotherapy isn’t available when you call, we can suggest related approaches with similar aims, such as Brainspotting, somatic therapy or Internal Family Systems.
In our founder’s words, “I help you wake up to yourself.” That spirit of curiosity, courage and deep respect for your inner wisdom shapes how we approach this kind of work. If you’re in crisis, though, hypnotherapy isn’t the place to start: please call or text 988 right now, and reach out to us once you feel steadier.

hypnotherapy, answered
Still wondering about something? Call (785) 615-1995 or send us a note.
Is hypnotherapy covered by insurance?
Longer, standalone hypnotherapy sessions are not billable to insurance and are paid out of pocket. Other therapy you receive with us, such as individual sessions that complement hypnotherapy, may be covered by in-network plans like BCBS, Aetna, Cigna or Medicare. Because billing depends on the specific service, ask before booking, and request a Good Faith Estimate for any self-pay service.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals. Standalone deep-trance work, when offered, usually unfolds over a short series of about three sessions. Clinical hypnotherapy woven into ongoing therapy may be used across several sessions as part of a larger plan. Your clinician will talk with you about a realistic timeline once they understand what you’re hoping for.
Can everyone be hypnotized?
Most people can experience some degree of hypnotic trance, though depth varies from person to person and even day to day. You don’t need to be especially imaginative or suggestible. Feeling safe with your clinician and curious about the process matters far more. If deep trance doesn’t come easily, lighter states can still be useful.
Do I have to believe in past lives to try regression work?
No. Some clients interpret what emerges spiritually, while others see it as the mind speaking in symbol and metaphor. Both perspectives are welcome, and neither is required. Our practice is spiritually open, which means we follow your beliefs and your lead rather than asking you to adopt anyone else’s framework.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
When provided by a trained clinician with careful screening, hypnotherapy is generally considered safe. Some people feel emotional or tired afterward, and memories can surface that need gentle processing, which is why integration time matters. It may not be appropriate for people experiencing psychosis or certain dissociative conditions, and your clinician will discuss this with you.
