Genevieve Akins, MHC Intern

Through my work with diverse populations and my own lived experiences, I am continuously reminded that the importance of mental health support cannot be exaggerated. I believe that every person should have access to the support they need. My approach to counseling is trauma-informed and influenced by a variety of modalities, including person-centered, narrative, and solution-focused therapies. Above all, I am guided by the belief that the client is the expert on their experiences. As a therapist, I aim to meet clients where they are at, provide a nonjudgmental space, and support clients on their unique paths.

I am particularly interested in working with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent individuals. Regardless of my clients' identities, I recognize that every individual is impacted by societal factors and the context in which they exist. I welcome conversations about these factors in my work with clients.

I am currently pursuing my master's in clinical mental health counseling at the College of William & Mary. I am fortunate to be doing my clinical fieldwork under the supervision of River Ledet. I have over 5 years of experience working in various mental health settings and am thrilled to be nearing professional licensure as a counselor.

I would love to connect and discuss how I can support you on your journey!
